Your Vermont Snowmobile Tour: Why You Need to Arrive 45 Min. Early

Every time you book something, whether it’s a flight, a dinner reservation, or a doctor’s appointment, you’re always asked to arrive early. We know this can feel like an inconvenience, but when it comes to getting you ready for your snowmobile tour with Snowmobile Vermont, we truly need you to arrive 45 minutes early for safety reasons.

So what do we do during those 45 minutes prior to your tour?

First, each person in your party needs to be fitted with a helmet and the proper cold weather gear. Everyone should have a balaclava or ski mask to wear underneath the helmet. When you put the helmet on, it should feel snug, but not hurt, poke, or dig into your head anywhere. Move your head front to back and side to side; if the helmet slides with the movement, it’s too big. You should also check to make sure the helmet isn’t tilting to the front at all. Lastly, open and close your mouth with the helmet on and feel for movement. If there is any significant movement when you do this, the helmet is too large.

We also provide you with rugged, insulated boots that will keep your feet warm and protected while you’re on your Vermont snowmobile tour. Again, it takes time to make sure everyone has boots that fit them properly. If you don’t have good cold weather clothes (ski clothes work perfectly), we can provide you with snowmobile suit rentals for a small fee. We like to think that there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. We want you to have a great experience, so we want to make sure we have the time to get everyone properly outfitted. For more information on what to wear on your tour, check out our blog post on how to stay warm while snowmobiling.

Second, we want to show you our safety video. In it, you’ll get acquainted with your snowmobile, including how to make it go and stop, how to turn it on and off, how to steer, and hear important safety tips to make your tour the best it can be. You can also watch a version of our snowmobile safety video below prior to your visit if you’re the kind of person who likes to be well prepared ahead of time.

We want you to enjoy as much of your tour time on a snowmobile, and not spend any of that time on the necessary preparations. We can’t be certain ahead of time how long that prep might take – you might need to try on a few helmets and/or boots to get the right fit. If you’re visiting our Stowe, VT location, you’ll be taking a shuttle from our headquarters inside Umiak Outfitters to the trails… just another reason we want everyone to arrive 45 minutes before their tour time so that we can ensure you get the most riding time possible.

Ensuring everyone has a properly-fitting helmet and cold weather gear, and that drivers understand how to operate their snowmobiles, are requirements for a successful tour. Do yourself and us a favor: arrive 45 minutes prior to your tour time.

We want your snowmobile tour to be fun, enjoyable and safe! If you have any questions about your gear or our tours, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing you!
